The core of Fillmore's philosophy is a belief that all children should receive a skill-based, quality arts education. Fillmore serves over 3,000 DCPS students at two sites:
| Fillmore West | Fillmore East |
| Hearst Hyde Key Ross Stoddert | Garrison Houston Raymond River Terrace |
Fillmore also serves the greater metropolitan area through after-school classes and it's summer camp at the Fillmore West site.
There are many opportunities for exhibits, concerts, performances, and field trips. Visiting artists provide additional enrichment.

For our new parents here are a few key points:
- Students from participating schools travel by DCPS buses to the Fillmore site on “their day” and gain experience with a wide variety of visual and performing arts courses.
- Participating school teachers accompany students on the bus to Fillmore, and then have a private space to use for their planning.
- Second graders and below take an hour of visual arts and an hour of music, dance, or drama each week at Fillmore. Also, second graders have a hands-on experience with the violin or recorder.
- Students in grades 3 and up choose from electives like strings, winds, percussion, dance, drama, musical theater, digital art, general art and design, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. Fillmore teachers will visit classrooms during the first week of school to assist students in their class choices. At the start of the year you and your child should discuss which classes he/she may want to take.
